In Dogfight, oversized paper planes embattled in a war game flying high above the viewer. The ephemeral quality of the paper lends innocence to the chaotic game overhead. Through humor, irony and parody, Dogfight explores the state of art, war, ego and technology in a seemingly childlike yet breathtaking installation.

“A page out of a notebook, with its blue lines and spiral bound edges, is a familiar image.  This is my primary vehicle in utilizing a connection with the viewer.  The paper is enlarged to give this common object a sense of importance and to create a new perspective.  Influences of American culture have shaped my life and viewpoint, which is often reflected in my work.

In Dogfight, the paper takes on a sense of nostalgia and simpler times, yet also reveals the modern day issues of warfare, drones and invisible wars our society engages in.  While the paper appears delicate, the movement of the planes suggest battles that go beyond simple child’s play.” –Michael Scoggins
